If you are tired of replacing your old 50 amp Delco Generators, Aircenter, Inc. has the solution to all of your electrical problems. When the Twin Commander was first built, alternators were not available. The kit comes complete with new alternators, Electronic Voltage regulators and all new wiring to completely update your Twin Commander electrical system. The kit even has alternator failure warning lights to alert you should you loose one of your alternators in flight. The alternator kit utilizes a dual alternator belt for redundancy. New dual Ring Gears assemblies come with the kit. The 90-amp alternator STC is required to power the Cool Air™ air-conditioner for the Twin Commanders. The high output Alternator STC uses factory-new Hartzel Engine Technologies Power Systems alternators and state-of-the-art electronic voltage regulators. They each carry a one year warranty. The new light-weight alternators are significantly lighter than the old-style generators. The high output Alternator STC is approved for the 500B, 500U and 500S series of Twin Commanders and requires 40 hours to install.

The Cool Air™ air-conditioner is the first modern Freon Air Conditioner system approved for the 500 and 600 Twin Commanders utilizing R-134A refrigerant. The unit’s weight is only 57 pounds, and is fully electric allowing the pilot to ground cool his aircraft with a GPU prior to engine start. You have 38 degree air within five minutes at air vents. The condenser module is rated at 16,500 BTU and is remotely mounted behind the baggage compartment. The evaporator and blower fan are mounted where the optional hat shelf is fitted. This allows for complete use of the baggage floor area. Cool air is ducted into the cabin and dispersed with individual air outlets for each crewmember and passenger. The controls are within easy reach of the pilot. There is a three-speed fan switch for cabin comfort. The electrical system is protected with automatic load shedding for safety. Same compressor/electric motor as installed in Citation 650 Business Jet.

If you have ever made a right turn and did not have the benefit of an extra set of eyes in the co-pilot seat, you know that you are making a dangerous blind turn. We consider this mod to be one of the most important things that you can do to your Twin Commander. With the installation of the Eyebrow Window kit, you can see completely through the right turn, avoiding any conflicting traffic. The Twin Commander is one of the few airplanes that flies like a jet, in the respect that the pilot is out in front of the engines and props.

With the addition of the Eyebrow Windows, the pilot has one of the best views from the flight deck of any piston-powered aircraft built. The primary reason for the Eyebrow Windows for the pilot and co-pilot is safety. The earlier Twin Commanders didn’t have the “over the wing viewing” that the later models offered. As an example, while making a right turn, the pilot’s view is almost totally blanked out. With the Eyebrow Window STC, the pilot is able to view the entire turning radius for flight safety.

The Eyebrow Windows are constructed of dark tinted Plexiglas to help filter out bright sun light. The shape of the windows is slightly smaller than the factory installed windows that you find on the later model Shrikes. Our windows have a cleaner design and fit the 500 series better than the larger model 685 Eyebrow Windows that the factory used on the Shrikes beginning in 1970. The Eyebrow Window STC is approved for all 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders. The kit comes complete with new overhead fiberglass moldings and can be installed in about 40 hours.

The Aircenter Sun Shields are a direct replacement for the Sun Shields that were originally manufactured by the factory. These Sun Shields are no longer available from Twin Commander. They are mounted at the top of both windshields and help block out the sun’s rays. They are manufactured of dark tinted plastic and conform to the shape of the original windshields. The Sun Shield STC is approved for all 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders. The kit can be installed in two hours.

Most Twin Commanders that are flying today are still fitted with original cabin windows that were manufactured more than 50 years ago. Most of these windows are sun crazed and in need of being replaced. The original windows were clear and only 1/8th inch thick. The Aircenter windows are tinted and are 1/2″ thick making for a quieter cabin with less noise and vibration. These windows are recommended when the Cool AirTM air-conditioner mod is installed. The dark tinting helps cool the cabin by blocking out sun light. The 1/2″ tinted cabin windows are approved for all 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders. The kit can be installed in 12 hours.

The vertical stabilizer cap increases speed due to less frontal area because a teardrop-flashing beacon replaces the standard large protruding rotating beacon. The clean, squared-off design gives more square inches on the side of the vertical for better stabilizing and directional control. It immediately gives your Twin Commander the late model Turbo Commander look. The Square Rudder Cap STC is approved for all 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders and is made of lightweight fiberglass. The Split Nose Bowl STC allows your mechanic to work on the front of your flat nacelle Twin Commander without removing the propeller. This is very helpful in changing the starter or alternator. One half of the nacelle can be removed allowing easy access to the working area. The Split Nose Bowl STC is approved for all flat nacelle 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders. The production of the piston engine powered Commanders first began in 1952 and ended with the 500S “Shrike” series in 1979. During its long production run, the basic design continued to evolve and be perfected. It is possible to take an older Twin Commander and install airframe mods to make it look and perform like the later models.

In 1965, a company by the name of JW Miller designed an extended fiberglass nose cone for the Twin Commander aircraft. The extended nose greatly improved the appearance of the Twin Commanders. The factory was so impressed by the streamlined nose, that they purchased 100 nose kits from the JW Miller Company. They incorporated the nose in their production run for several years. In 1969, Aero Commander started building their airplanes with a metal nose similar to the “Miller” nose. The Aircenter, Inc. aerodynamic extended nose fits right over the existing shell and the enclosed landing lights blend into one smooth continuous line. The old blunt appearance is gone and you now have an updated new appearance.

The Shrike nose adds greater stability, control, speed, and reduces drag. The radome nose will accommodate most Radars. All skins are constructed of lightweight vacuum formed, honeycomb reinforced fiberglass construction. The nose weighs only 38 pounds. The Shrikes built from 1969 and later are heavier due to the nose cone being constructed of aluminum instead of lightweight fiberglass. The Shrike Nose STC is approved for all 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders and is made of lightweight fiberglass. The kit can be installed in 80 hours.

The Nacelle Recognition lights are mounted in the engine nacelle’s outboard of the spinner. The lights are controlled by the pilot and can be turned on during operations in congested areas. They are rated at 25,000 candlepower per light and are extremely helpful during landing operations at small airports. Later model Shrikes are equipped with retractable landing lights and have airspeed restrictions for deployment. The Nacelle Recognition lights eliminate that speed restriction during high-speed descents. The STC is approved for all flat nacelle 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders. Frameless Window Vents

The Twin Commander has an openable storm window on the pilot side. The window is surrounded with a metal frame. This frame has a tendency to block the pilot’s view when looking for traffic. The Frameless Vent Windows offer the same size opening of the original windows without the distraction of the metal frame. This helps make the view from the flight desk of the Twin Commander one of the best in the world. The window is also approved for installation on the co-pilot side as well. They are thicker than the original windows, which cuts down on the cabin noise. The Frameless Window STC is approved for all 500 and 600 series Twin Commanders. The kit can be installed in six hours. The Flap Gap Seals are installed on the top and bottom of the wings. There is a large opening between the flaps and the bottom of the wing. The Flap Gap Seal will seal this opening between the top and bottom of the flaps. When the flaps are in the up position, lifting air pressure can no longer escape through this gap, thus the increased lift improves rate of climb and performance. Installation of Flap Gap Seals will also reduce wing vibration during climb out. Our Flap Gap Seal STC is the same type as you find on the Turbo Commanders.

The Flap Gap Seals increase overall airspeed by six knots. Installation of the Flap Gap Seals will greatly improve slow speed roll control, resulting in better short field take-off and landing capabilities.
